What's a spud?
Our primary gathering each week takes place in homes. We call these 'simple churches,' or 'spuds,' and this is where we experience life together as the family of God. A spud is a potato plant, and we like that name because one spud multiplies into many, and they grow in the earth -- out of sight, behind the scenes, underground. That's what we want to be in our city. We're not looking to be the big name or to make a huge splash. But we do intend to grow by reproducing God's life within us. For details, see below.
What do we do?
We meet in homes each week, much like the members of the first century church did. There are three of these currently in the Tulsa Boiler Room -- a church of churches. The content can vary from spud to spud, and from week to week, but there are some typical elements we typically include. We celebrate the Lord's Supper as a central part of our gatherings. This is the Eucharist, or Communion, as well as a shared meal together. We really like to eat together, and feel that it helps us to live out the reality of family. Plus we like to eat. Doing this as a part of the Lord's Supper centers us in the Gospel, and reminds us that it is the presence of Christ among us that makes the gathering special. We also typically worship, discuss the Word, and pray for one another. Sometimes we simply chill out over conversation or games. We intentionally make room for each person to express the gifts given to them from the Lord, and believe that each one has something vital for the rest of us.
How can I get involved?
